Aquí no es nada informal. En una pregunta encajada (embedded question),
ya has invertido los verbos y, si hace falta, puesto los auxiliaresal principio de la pregunta, no es necesario hacerlo otra vez.En tales estructuras, después de los pronombres (como how, what, why, how long, how many, etc), hay que seguir el orden de una frase normal: sujeto, verbo, etc.

Not necessarily. The OP might have seen:
"Practice you know how long it takes you lot to become to the top?"
That IS a direct question, distinct from "I wonder how long it takes y'all to get to the summit."

The starting time 1 is correct, information technology is asking a question.
The second one is not asking, it is stating.
